Hernando Indoor Percussion has been a tradition for years. These performers spend countless hours practicing to perfect their shows, pushing themselves to grow both musically and visually. The 2026 show, “The Dream Eye Dream,” explores themes of color, dreams, and imagination, bringing a surreal and expressive concept to life on the floor.
“The Dream Eye Dream is based off of surrealism. So basically how far you can go while dreaming—you could do whatever when you dream, but the only limit is how far you want to go,” Sophomore, Camden Crunk said.
This season has looked different for many members of the program. Due to low sign-ups for Indoor Winds, several students were given the opportunity to join Indoor Percussion instead. Seniors, especially, were able to experience one final indoor season by stepping into new roles such as cymbals, visual ensemble, or even front ensemble.
Senior, Stella Walker said, “Indoor Percussion gave me the chance to do indoor one last time, since indoor winds didn’t happen this year.”
The season began with a major milestone: Hernando High School hosted its first indoor competition. Schools from across the district attended, bringing together Indoor Percussion, Indoor Winds, and Winter Guard groups—both JV and Varsity. The event not only showcased talent from around the region but also helped raise money and awareness for the Hernando band program.
As the season progressed, the group traveled to Madison, Alabama, where they placed third in their class with a score of 79.4. The day started early, with students leaving the high school at 7 a.m. and arriving in Madison around 11 a.m. After rehearsing throughout the day, they performed their first run around noon. Following a strong performance, the group continued practicing before finals later that evening. When scores were announced, excitement filled the gym as they secured a top-three finish.

Later in the season, Hernando traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, for another competition. After another long and demanding day of rehearsal and performance, the group earned a score of 83.975, placing second in their class. This marked a significant improvement from earlier in the season and reflected the group’s continued growth and dedication.

With each competition, Hernando Indoor Percussion continues to build momentum. Through long rehearsals, early mornings, and constant refinement, the performers bring their vision to life. “The Dream Eye Dream” not only tells a story about imagination and possibility, but also represents the hard work, adaptability, and passion of every student involved.
Junior, King Ferguson says, “Indoor has taught me that pressure is a privilege and if you make your pressure work for you, you can turn that pressure into excellence that radiates from you.”
As the season continues, the group pushes forward—proving that the only limit, much like in dreams, is how far they are willing to go.
“There is no way around hard work so embrace it. You have to put in the hours of work because there’s always something you can improve on,” Freshman, Alley Griffin states.
Without a doubt Hernando Percussion has had a very successful season! Remember that your dreams can come true…but how far do YOU want to take them.
