On Nov. 19, Hernando High School senior Cade Koczka signed with Northwest Mississippi Community College, where he will continue his baseball career.

Northwest Mississippi Community College has become a popular destination for Hernando athletes continuing to the collegiate level. Koczka said he chose the school because of its proximity to home and familiarity with the program.

Hernando baseball coach Taylor Karr said Koczka has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and leadership both on and off the field. He described Koczka as an exceptional leader in the clubhouse, locker room and on the field.

“He’s not only going to do what you say, but he’s going to lead others in that direction as well,” Karr said.

Karr said Koczka has displayed those leadership qualities since his arrival at Hernando.

Koczka said his mother has been his biggest inspiration throughout his high school career, noting her constant support in his development as a player.

Family members attended the signing to support Koczka during the event. He also shared advice for underclassmen.

“Have fun because it goes by pretty quick,” Koczka said.

Koczka has served as a role model for younger players on the team. Teammate Axton Westmorland, the No. 1-ranked player in Mississippi for the Class of 2028, said Koczka is someone younger players can look up to.

From his freshman through junior seasons with the Tigers, Koczka recorded impressive statistics. During his junior year, he totaled eight home runs, 71 RBIs and a .291 batting average.

With his final high school season approaching, Koczka and the Tigers hope to reach additional goals before moving on to the collegiate level.

Koczka’s years of hard work and dedication have led him to the next stage of his baseball career.
