January 16 was a big day for gamers. Nintendo of America released a trailer for its new console, the Nintendo Switch 2. Many have wondered if the console even exists.
Please Nintendo, announce Switch 2 and release it so my poor Switch can finally rest.

Many people are very excited about the new console. Many have been waiting for years to know what they would call it and what it would look like. It has been almost a decade since the Switch was released on March 3, 2017. The Nintendo Switch 2 offers only incremental improvements, so waiting to purchase may be a wise choice. Let me tell you why.
Hardware
The Nintendo Switch 2 comes with the same features as the Switch: You can dock and play on your TV, or you can play in handheld mode on the go. The docking system doesn’t appear to be anything different. The controllers have changed, also; they plug into the switch rather than the original version of sliding onto the side of the Switch. The screen and overall size of the Switch have increased to appear bigger than the Nintendo Switch OLED. But this won’t affect the gameplay experience if you play in docked mode. The Switch 2 also seems to have 2 Type-C ports and will be charged from the bottom port like the original Switch.

Game Library
Fans were very excited to learn that the Switch 2 will have exclusive games, but they will also be able to play Switch games.
“Plays Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games, as well as Nintendo Switch games.”
So that the Nintendo Switch game collection won’t be lost to time with the new console. You’ll be able to play all your Switch games on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Cost?
As of writing this article, Nintendo has yet to release a price for the Nintendo Switch 2. Fans can only speculate, but they did announce their next Nintendo Direct in the trailer for April 2, 2024. The Direct will be live-streamed and will cover the Nintendo Switch 2, all the details, and hopefully a price.
Why you should and shouldn’t upgrade
Upgrading as soon as it is released would be only beneficial for hardcore gamers and people who don’t already have a Nintendo Switch. The Switch library is still going strong, and it might be for a year or 2 after the Switch 2 releases. Gamers should buy it if they are looking for a performance upgrade. The Nintendo Switch isn’t going anywhere soon, so don’t feel like you must upgrade as soon as it comes out.
Before you consider buying the Switch 2, make sure it is the right time and if it is worth it. While the Nintendo Switch 2 is exciting, it offers incremental improvements that may not warrant an immediate upgrade for most consumers.
