On November 19th three softball seniors, Kate Johnson, Olivia Higginbotham, and Madison York signed with their respective teams. Johnson committed to Northwest, Higginbotham committed to Co-Lin Community College, and York committed to the Mississippi University for Women. Running off third base the players have mixed emotions about hitting home plate for the last time. “I’m excited but I’m sad…” said Kate when asked how she felt with this being her last season of high school softball. Kate Johnson’s father, Brent Johnson, has played a significant role in the HernandoTigersSportsNetwork, coaching, teaching, and mentoring each and every member. HTSN would like to recognize him for the hard work and dedication he puts into everything he does for HTSN.
Madison York has been part of the Hernando Softball team since the seventh grade and has grown as a player since then. York is also a member of the Hernando Girls Basketball team. Both basketball and softball girls showed up to support the player for her official signing. “This school has given me so much and I’m just so happy to be on this team,” she said. Olivia Higginbotham has also been a member of the softball team since the seventh grade. Higginbotham’s family showed up and supported her during her signing. Higginbotham’s sister, who is also a member of the team, seemed very proud of her sister’s accomplishment. Higginbotham will be majoring in health sciences and talked about why she decided to commit to Co-Lin Community College. “ I just loved the coaches and the whole atmosphere, it’s not too far from home, and it’s just perfect for me.” It was an emotional rollercoaster for everyone in the room. Laughter, tears, and smiles were shared while everyone laughed to keep from crying. The Hernando High School would like to congratulate the athletes on their accomplishments and wish them the best in their college life.
