HERNANDO, Miss. — What started as a vision for a family-friendly haven for LEGO enthusiasts has officially clicked into place. Bricks & Minifigs Hernando, the Midsouth’s largest LEGO resale shop, is celebrating its one-year anniversary this month, marking a significant milestone for local owners Kevin and Tammy Thorn and the vibrant community of builders they’ve cultivated.
The store, located at 210 E Commerce St. within the Depot shopping mall, has quickly become a signpost for LEGO enthusiasts throughout DeSoto County and beyond. Since opening its doors, Bricks & Minifigs has quickly become more than just a store – it’s a place where creativity is encouraged, memories are made, and the simple joy of LEGO is celebrated.
“It’s been an incredible first year,” said Kevin Thorn, co-owner. “We wanted to create a place where kids and adults alike could explore their passion for LEGO, find those unique pieces, and feel truly at home. The support from the Hernando community has been overwhelming and humbling.”
The store’s unique selling point is its “buy, sell, trade” concept that allows customers to bring in their ‘pre-loved’ LEGO sets and minifigures for cash or store credit. This not only makes LEGO more affordable but also means that there is an ever-changing selection of rare, retired, and hard-to-find LEGO sets that LEGO enthusiasts of all kinds can enjoy. From towering Star Wars vessels to beautiful architectural creations, there is something for everyone.

Some of the most popular aspects of the store include its bulk tables, where customers can purchase individual LEGO bricks by container. They offer 5 different size container options to cater to each need. The Minifig Table is another constant draw, enabling children and adults to assemble their perfect custom minifigure, piece by unique piece.
Beyond retail, Bricks & Minifigs Hernando has become a community gathering spot. The store regularly hosts birthday parties, providing a vibrant and engaging setting for celebrations. They also organize special events, such as “LEGO Ladies Night,” fostering a sense of camaraderie among adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs). These events underscore the store’s mission to be a true community resource, offering engaging experiences that extend beyond simply buying and selling.
As Bricks & Minifigs Hernando looks to its second year, the Thorns plan to continue expanding their offerings and community engagement. They envision more themed building events, challenges, and opportunities for local builders to connect and share their passion. The success of their first year stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of LEGO and the power of local entrepreneurship.
For the Thorns, Bricks & Minifigs is more than a business; it’s a lifelong passion project brought to life in their own community. “We’ve lived in this region for 25 years,” Kevin Thorn noted. “Bringing a place like this to Hernando, where families can come together and enjoy something so creative, has been a dream come true.”
The store invites everyone to join in their many upcoming events throughout the year, encouraging new and returning customers to experience the magic of building at Bricks & Minifigs Hernando.
