In 2013 the Memphis Zoo opened the Stingray Bay as a temporary exhibit, but it has been announced that Stingray Bay is coming back in 2027 to stay for good. Zoo officials stated on their website that,

“Their return as part of a permanent habitat reflects our continued commitment to creating meaningful, up close wildlife experiences for our community.”

Having closed in 2021, the stingrays are coming back to provide us with a hands on experience along with sharks and other marine life in an effort to connect guests their marine species. They have stated that guests will be allowed to touch, feed, and swim with the stingrays.

“Stingrays were previously featured at Memphis Zoo at a seasonal capacity and quickly became a fan favorite,” Memphis Zoo said in an official post.

Fans quickly responded to this announcement and were overjoyed at the news of this new immersive, educational experience. Many people commented things like,

”This is going to be so fun!” or “Cannot wait for this to open!! Such wonderful learning activities.”

The stingray exhibit, which is being named Stingrays at Mangrove Cove, will have the experience will be included with entry, and feeding will only cost a small fee.

The stingray exhibit will highlight the conservation importance of mangrove ecosystems and the diverse species that depend on these critical coastal habitats,” Zoo Officials said.

Memphis Zoo continues to prove its excellence as they open this new exhibit to educate, inspire, and represent. Having been dubbed the #1 zoo in the US, they continue to hold their spot as they add these fascinating creatures to their featured 3,500 animals and 500 species.
