On December 9, the Hernando Tigers competed against the Southaven Chargers on the court.
The annual Winterfest basketball game is one of the most exciting games of the season. The gym was packed with excited fans, and their cheers echoed as the two teams took the court.
As the game began with the Lady Tigers, it was clear the matchup was going to be tough. The players moved with speed and precision, showcasing their skills.
The away team came out strong, scoring the first points of the game. However, the Lady Tigers continued to fight, not allowing the early momentum to get into their heads.
Throughout the first half, the lead changed repeatedly. Players made impressive plays, and coaches called timeouts to rally their teams and adjust strategies, knowing every point counted.
As the second half unfolded, the intensity continued to grow. The crowd’s cheers turned into chants, and the players fed off the energy, pushing themselves to the limit.
The girls’ Winterfest basketball game was a hard-fought battle that came down to the final moments. Despite their best efforts and strong teamwork, the Lady Tigers narrowly lost by a close score of 42–43.
The Hernando Lady Tigers showed great determination and skill throughout the game. Although the outcome was not what they hoped for, their effort and spirit were truly inspiring. This close game will surely motivate them to return even stronger next time.
Between the games, Hernando High School held its very first Winterfest Court in the brand-new school. Fifteen young women were nominated to represent Hernando and their class.
There were three freshmen: Emma Boren, Hallie Grace Hudson, and Mari-Kyle Lofton.
The three sophomores were Eloise Pittman, Kennedy Bergeron, and Mattie Ivy.
The three juniors were Amelia Pittman, Emma Claire Anderson, and Mia Faith Wasson.
Lastly, six seniors represented their class: Celie Stark, Evelyn Jewel, Keristian Nevels, Natalie Burge, Reagan Taylor, and Saylor Waddill.
Celie Stark was crowned Hernando High School’s Winterfest Queen.
Later that night, the Hernando Boys Basketball team competed against the Southaven Chargers.
From the opening tip, the Tigers dominated the Chargers. They showed great focus and energy, executing plays with precision and maintaining strong communication on the court.
They quickly established control by playing tight defense and moving the ball efficiently. The Tigers forced turnovers and limited the Chargers’ scoring, which helped maintain momentum.
In the second half, the intensity increased as the Chargers attempted to close the gap. The Tigers remained composed and stayed committed to their game plan.
They continued to work together, finding open shots and making key baskets to protect their lead.
The Tigers’ teamwork and communication throughout the entire game were outstanding, leading them to a 67–50 victory over the Chargers.
