As the season kicks off, Head Coach Neely has very clear goals and high expectations for the Hernando Boys Basketball team. For this year, his main focus is on the team’s communication skills both on and off the court.
“I want us to look, play, and grow together as a team,” he says. “A key start to this is to revive the winning mentality that has been a struggle for us in the past.”
Neely states he the boys to push for improvement in every game. While the team is filled with potential, Neely highlights key areas for growth: defense, patience on offense, and ball-handling. With only one senior on the team, the players will need to gain more game experience to be more consistent and improve their fundamentals.
Neely believes in leading by example and strives to motivate his players through encouragement, energy, and constant communication.
“I show them how much I care and provide guidance on how to improve,” he shared.
For those interested in joining the team next year, Neely’s advice is very clear: Prioritize academics and be prepared to work hard.
“Being a student athlete is crucial,” he noted. He assures a positive and fun atmosphere while maintaining high expectations. “You represent Hernando every time you step on to the court, and I’m here to help you succeed both on and off the court.”
Neely’s passion for the game and commitment to his players is transparent, and he looks forward to a successful season ahead.

We are so grateful to have Coach Neely this year to help encourage these boys. Tough loss last night, but I know they can come back from it.
