She has two younger siblings: Jaliyah and Bruno Kelly.

The Kelly family has roots in several different places. Franziska and her sister Jaliyah were born in Memphis, Tennessee, while their brother Bruno was born in Southaven, Mississippi. Mrs. Kelly is from Giessen, Germany, and Mr. Kelly is from Grey, Indiana. The family moved from Memphis to Mississippi in 2009 and settled in Horn Lake, where they have lived ever since.

While Mrs. Kelly also supports her daughter’s athletic journey, her involvement is more focused on logistics, such as driving Franziska to practices and games. During the AAU season, she would often drive her daughter an hour and a half to practice. She has also stepped in to assist with training, whether that involved playing defense, recording workout sessions, or offering advice.

Franziska’s passion for basketball can be traced back to her father’s influence. He played in an adult league when she was a child, and the family would watch his games together. Her love for the sport initially stemmed from his example, but over time, Franziska developed a deep passion for the game. Her competitive spirit, which she inherited from both of her parents, shines through in everything she does. However, it is her father’s intense competitiveness that is most evident in her game. Like him, she is driven to give her best in all situations and becomes upset when she loses.

Though Mrs. Kelly never played basketball herself, she has always had an interest in the sport and wished she could have participated. Franziska’s passion for the game began with her father’s influence, but as she grew older, it evolved into a genuine love and enjoyment of basketball in her own right.

Milestone Year: 2020

The peak of Franziska’s athletic journey came in 2020, during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. With schools closed and sports temporarily halted, Franziska dedicated herself to improving as a player. This period allowed her to focus intensely on training, and by the time schools reopened, she was a transformed player. She joined the basketball team at Southaven Middle School, where she quickly impressed everyone with her ability to score a remarkable number of points. That year, she won her first championship, marking a significant milestone in her basketball career.

Kelly Makes History 

As of today, Franziska Kelly has accomplished ranking number two in the nation. She has and will continue to lead, support, and inspire young women like herself. Throughout her entire athletic career, she has shown dedication, teamwork, and great sportsmanship which is evidence of her accomplishment. As she continues to ball hard on the court, one day when she looks back… she will be proud of how far she’s come.
