Get ready, that time of year is here again… Picture Day! Picture day for all lower class-men (which includes freshmen, sophomores, and juniors), will be on October 14th this year at Hernando High School, which is the Tuesday right after fall break, so be prepared! If you’re an over-thinker when it comes to outfits, or you’re just not fashionable, here is a simple guide to follow on the do’s and don’t’s for Picture Day!
1. Neat Hair
Now, everybody has a definition of neat hair. Whether it be perfectly combed or messy and shaggy, we don’t care! Picture day is all about you and what you want to be known for in high school. However, keep in mind, it is a pain for the editors to fix any out of line strands. Ways to make sure your hair is in line is by being mindful about the style you do it up in, washing it or using dry shampoo, and keeping it brushed.
2. Keep it appropriate
What is cute and fashionable is also up to the individual, but what is and isn’t yearbook and school appropriate isn’t. No to pajamas, anything too low cut, tube tops, crop tops, etc. I feel like it shouldn’t have to be explained to high schoolers what is and isn’t okay; you’ve known these rules your whole school career! A good tip is that if you even have to question if it’s inappropriate, then it’s inappropriate.
3. Then what is appropriate?
Necklines such as jewel, non-deep v’s, funnel, and boat are cute while not being revealing. Colors are up to the individual, as colors are not inherently inappropriate. Pants of all shapes and sizes are welcomed, whether it be baggy jeans, sporty leggings, or lazy day sweatpants. Jewelry, in my opinion, is also a must; if you’re not an avid jewelry wearer, I really do recommend accessorizing yourself somehow! Dresses and skirts are a cute option, too, but again, keep in mind what is and isn’t appropriate.
4. Hygiene
Please, please, please shower at least the night before picture day. The student volunteers and photographers do not show up and spend their whole school day to take your photo just to smell your musk! Don’t forget deodorant, too. Perfume and cologne is always appreciated, but don’t wear too much to the point where everyone surrounding you will get a head ache.
5. Makeup
Makeup is always an optional, too, but I honestly recommend wearing more than necessary on picture day. Style is up to you, but there’s really not much of a point of wearing makeup if you look the same before and after. Keep in mind the cameras further away, and it cant catch everything on your face, so “overdoing” is a great way for the photo to actually look like what you were going for.
And a final word of advice, pay attention and show up. When it’s announced for a group in your grade to go, turn on your listening ears and process who they are calling for; last names a-g, h-p, or q-z, and which one are you? Everything moves faster when things go by plan and when people show up when they’re needed, so do your part and show up!
Now, you are ready for Picture day (which may I remind you, is on October 14th, 2025, the Tuesday after fall break)! Show up and be confident; you got this!
