From the dates September 25 to October 5, the Mid-South Fair took place in the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi.
The Landers’ Center has held the Mid-South fair for 16 years, starting in September 2009. Since then plenty of changes have been made.
Originally, the Mid-South Fair was run by Shelby County Agricultural Society, and later it was run by different board of directors. But now the fair is ran by a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The fair’s name has even changed. Originally being called the Tri-State Fair. The name was changed to Mid-South to attract attention
On the Landers Center website, it is explained that the fair wants to provide safe, fun memories for families and friends. Hernando High students that attended the fair agree that they felt safe while riding the rides, but also while walking around from one attraction to the next.
“There was a lot of security and police around, and the rides felt really, really safe.” said Ulises, a Hernando Student.
The entry added to the level of security, student Claire White shares that there was a clear bag policy, and guests were given a wristband and stamp on their hand.
The website also shares that the fair is an opportunity for different businesses and vendors to share their talents. This consisted of selling food, having animals you can pet, and live music.
“I got to hold a snake and take pictures with it.” said Ana Carreras, a sophomore at Hernando High School.
Speaking of entertainment, differents rides there included a ferris wheel, alien invasion, and python. New attractions have been recently added called Fearless Flores, this is a dirt bike stunt show and a Puppy Pals show.
To get onto the rides, guests either got a wristband or a stamp on their hand that allowed them on the rides. These were given at the entrance. To get into the fair, adults pay $15 to get in and children/senior citizens pay $10 to get in. $5 was also owed for car parking.
There was also a talent show that took place. Anyone was able to join after submitting a video of their talent, filling out a form, and paying a small fee. A talent show took place each day, each division having their own days. There were junior and senior divisions. Winners won prices, consisting of different amounts of money. There were lots of dancers and singers at this talent show, musicians were also present. Students present agreed that the people at the talent show were very welcoming and kind.
