What all is new in Hernando? Hernando’s construction has worked hard the past year and a half to better our roads. Many of Hernando’s residents know all about what’s new, while others don’t get out much to know anything has changed as drastically as it has. So let’s talk about the most recent updates to our roads.
Roundabouts
Four way stops can become confusing when everyone who has made it there is not sure who was first or who’s going first. Within the past year Hernando Mississippi has built three roundabouts to prevent these confusions and stop the traffic build ups. Working a roundabout is as simple as it can be, when you first approach one you will see yield signs causing you to slow down and look before entering. Once it is clear there is no traffic within the circle you are free to go. Although all the roundabouts in Hernando aren’t the same as the other. The one by the Conger park, being the second roundabout in Hernando, is the simple, basic, four way roundabout. Nothing too special, although the first one on Jaybird Road only has three ways, which can seem tricky at first but the same rules and precautions apply. The most recent one that has finally been completed on McIngvale road, the two lane roundabout. The two lane roundabout has seemed to be causing trouble for some, because of how new it is and possibly never using one before. Using it is fairly simple, considering the road signs will guide you right through it. The left lane has an arrow pointing straight making this the straight lane, the right lane’s arrow points to the right meaning if you go through this lane you are going right.
Potholes
Before the new high school was built on McIngvale road, the roads were terrible. A pot hole was in every five feet of both lanes on each side of the road. Many students described it as, “driving through an earthquake,” or terrible while others said they found it fun. In the long run fun or not, it is very dangerous to drivers, especially the ones whose vehicles are lower than others. Potholes are not good for any basic car tire, and can seriously damage them, causing the driver to replace them which isn’t a simple or cheap task. Another big pothole problem we recently had was in between the four way stop by Walgreens. Going a bit past Walgreens and turning into the Hernando Sonic, leaving the intersection between Sonic, The Hill, Zaxby’s, and the road there was a big scoop of the road missing. I myself have witnessed many people drive right into this pothole and make the loudest bang, making many people avoid this spot, recently others are just now founding out and becoming comfortable to drive through here once again. Thankfully as time passed Hernando’s construction team has fixed all these problems and making it safe for us to drive smoothly to our B destination.
New Addition to Hernando?
Next to Hernando Compel you may have noticed a work in progress. This work as of now is supposed to be a daycare/pre-k. No one is quite sure what all they will add to this building or when it will be done but we all look forward to its completion!
How do you feel about all of Hernando’s new additions. While many feel like these are good additions others believe that we have other things to fix in our local town.
