Taking a test can be stressful for anyone and with so many different types of tests it can be difficult to know what to do, but there are a few tips that can be used for any test.
The first tip is to carefully read the question at hand. Test questions twist words all the time to try and trip you up, so make sure you read it very carefully. The next tip is to get lots of sleep. An article from www.sleepfoundation.org states, “Healthy sleep improves memory and recall and is associated with higher GPA’s.” Sleep also has been shown to improve moods. This is important for taking a test, so you will be able to focus, remember what you learned, and be in an overall good mood. Being in a good mood is very important because when you are in a good mood it reduces stress, and it helps make you more engaged. Another great trick you can use is eliminating silly answers. If there is a multiple-choice question with 4 questions and two of them, you know are false. Eliminate them. Then you will only be left with two answers and a much higher chance of picking the right one. Lastly, and possibly the most important tip, check your answers. Most standardized tests now use a bubble sheet for grading. There have been multiple times where people have had the right answer but checked the wrong bubble. Make sure you review and check over your answers before you submit your test, or you could make a simple mistake that could have brought your grade up.
If you use these tricks in preparation for and during your test, it should help you score higher. Students who use these have shown to have a better success rate and less test taking stress, so why not do a couple easy things to increase your testing scores?
