Wednesday:
The Mid-South received a 5/5 risk rating for severe weather on Wednesday. Most of Memphis, northwestern Mississippi, and the eastern parts of Arkansas have been affected. According to Fox 13, multiple touchdowns are happening across Senatobia, Slayden, Early Grove areas in Mississippi, Selmer, Grand Junction, Moscow, Tennessee, and Cold Water. The National Weather Service sent multiple alerts out between 12 am and 3 pm, April 3, for Hernando residents with multiple local students mentioning how long the sirens were on. No deaths have been reported in the area as of writing this.
Thursday:
Mid-South is in a 3/5 state of tornadoes for the rest of the week. Wreg Channel 3 predicted more tornadoes tonight. This includes hail, wind, and rain. Strong tornadoes are very likely, possible EF3 or stronger with winds predicted to be 70+ mph and hail to be expected. Several inches of rain are expected, and flooding. The National Weather Service has extended its flash flood warning till 9:30 am Thursday, April 3, but Fox 13 has a flash flood warning extended to Saturday.
How to prepare:
- Identify Safe locations- Basement, storm cellar, or a room on the first floor of a building with no windows and no outer wall, ex. bathroom, closet.
- Map out shelters in your area if necessary.
- Gather water and food, first aid kits, batteries for lights, and important medication.
- Charge all mobile devices and use them as little as possible.
- Listen to local news services, tornado sirens, and have your emergency alerts on. Wreg 3 has a Facebook live stream.
- Secure your pets.
