From the moment the Iconic castle appears on the screen, you know you’re about to be transported into a story that will capture your heart. Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King is no exception, offering a perfect blend of heartwarming moments, breath taking live-action filmmaking techniques, and unforgettable characters.
Recently released on December 20, 2024, was a live action prequel of Disney’s 1994 animated Lion King. This Prequel followed the origin story of Mufasa the father of Simba, who is the protagonist of The Lion King. On December 21, I went to watch this movie. Honestly, going in my expectations were pretty low. Neither of the directors from the original Lion King or the 2019 Lion King returned for the production of this movie.
My expectation quickly shifted. During the first quarter of the movie, I became invested in the movie. The director did an amazing job connecting the characters and the audience.
The directors did an amazing job at keeping the movie interesting. With most movies I typically get bored about halfway through, but this one kept me on the edge of my seat. The leading up to the climax was well done, having just enough action to keep it interesting but not enough to overdo it.
On the other hand, the movie was shown in a flashback sequence. Constantly flashing back to the present (Rafiki telling Mufasa’s grand-daughter Kiara the story) then flashing back to Mufasa’s childhood. The interruption of the story line and the back and forth between past and present could get confusing.
All and all Disney’s new Mufasa: The Lion King was a captivating and emotional journey that resonates with its viewers. Despite low expectations, the movie’s strong character connection and engaging plot made it an enjoyable experience. It embodies the love, betrayal, and responsibilities that this franchise is known for and stands as a worthy addition.
